Meet our CEO

Kilimanjaro SAR is the brainchild of our CEO Ivan Braun, who brings to the table over 35 years of business acumen and along with a wealth of experience gleaned from his career as a professional mountain guide.

Experience and Expertise

Our helicopters are flown by a group of carefully handpicked and experienced pilots. They work along side our medical team of rescue doctors and emergency flight technicians who are all specifically trained in mountain medicine, trauma and aeromedical procedures. We are the first High Altitude Medicine Clinic on the African continent.

Our CEO’s Commitment

Along with the guidance of our “think tank” of  talented and diverse stakeholders, our CEO has created the first platform in Tanzania that focuses solely on helicopter operations, specialising specifically in the provision rescue services covering Mt. Kilimanjaro and Mt. Meru in Northern Tanzania.

Ivan Braun

CEO

Kilimanjaro SAR is the brainchild of our CEO Ivan Braun, who brings to the table over 35 years of entreprenuership and a lifelong passion for mountaineering – the ideal blend for a business venture like this.

Amour Abdallah

Director of Human Resources

A seasoned Human Resources Development Specialist with a proven track record of 11 years of managing diverse workforces in Tanzania. Amour is also a holder of BSc-General, BBA-HR and Dip-WAM.

Gerald Dubowitz

Medical Director

Gerald Dubowitz has over 25 years of experience in high altitude medicine practice and research. He is a past expedition doctor on several Himalayan expeditions including Mt Everest and has worked at high altitude clinics for both the Himalayan Rescue Association and the International Porter Protection Group in Nepal. He is a founding faculty member of the UK and the Canadian Diploma in Mountain Medicine programmes, as well as faculty on the US National Park Service EMT and Parkmedic programs. He is also a Professor of Anesthesia at the University of California San Francisco USA and is Director the UCSF Anesthesia Global Health Program.

Our Mission

We provide Helicopter Search and Rescue operations ensuring safety for everyone on Mount Kilimanjaro. Additionally, we operate scenic and “Kilimanjaro express” flights making it easier to access Kilimanjaro and Tanzania from above.

Our vision is to make Kilimanjaro the safest tourist destination in Africa. For that reason, we have positioned modern, efficient and specialized rescue helicopters at Moshi Airport – the  ideal location for Search and Rescue operations in the region.

We want to explore partnerships with everyone interested in making Tanzania the safest tourist destination in the world and welcome suggestions to improve our service and optimise the utilisation of of our helicopters across all platforms including tourist,  oil or farming industry.
